Appearance

  • The Brazilian Terrier resembles the Fox Terrier in appearance.

  • These small dogs have a short haired coat that is typically tri-colored.

  • The colors of their coat include:

    1. white, black, and tan

    6. white, blue, and brown

  • This small dog breed is between 14 and 16 inches tall (at the withers).

  • They normally weigh between 14 and 20 pounds.

  • The head of this breed is triangular shaped with half folded ears.

Temperament

  • Brazilian Terriers are often compared to Jack Russell Terriers with regards to their personality.

History

  • This breed is very popular in Brazil.

  • They are one of two dogs that are native to the country (the other breed is the Fila Brasileiro).

  • Seemingly, during the 19th century the Jack Russell Terrier was brought to Brazil from Europe and bred with the Miniature Pinscher and possibly the large Chihuahua. Thus, developing the Brazilian Terrier.

  • In Brazil, these small dogs are still used for pack hunting and single hunting.

  • The Brazilian Terrier has only been registered since 1973.
