Appearance

  • The Chihuahua is recognized as the smallest breed of dog.

  • Their height tends to vary, but they are typically between 6 and 9 inches tall. However, they have been known to grow up to 15 inches in height as well.

  • They typically weigh between 2 and 6 pounds.

  • The ears of these small dogs stand straight up (erect).

  • This breed is recognized by two coat variations: the long coat and the smooth or short haired (genetically, they are the same breed).

  • Seemingly, the long haired Chihuahua actually has a smoother coat than the short haired. In addition, the long coat tends to shed less than the short haired.
