Trainability and Obedience
This breed is not too difficult to train.
As mentioned earlier, they are intelligent and eager to please.
You should be firm and consistent with your commands.
Do not be too aggressive with your approach. These small dogs respond better when you are caring and loving towards them (positive reinforcement training is recommended).
It is also best to begin training these dogs when they are pups.
Remember that any small dog breed can develop small dog syndrome if not properly trained.
Grooming
This small toy breed does not shed a lot and is generally easy to groom.
Brush their coat (using a soft bristle brush) once a week.
Bathe them when necessary.
These small dogs do not require much trimming.
History
This breed originated in England during the 1600s.
Seemingly, King Charles Spaniels were cross bred with Pugs. As a result, the English Toy Spaniel was developed.
These small dogs became the top choice of Royalty.
The English Toy Spaniel was first recognized by the AKC in 1886.
