- The Maltese is a sturdy little dog and a member of the toy group.
- They stand roughly 8 to 10 inches tall.

Maltese Dog Grooming
- Daily brushing of these small dogs is recommended.
- Be sure to check the ears on a regular basis in order to avoid infection. They should be kept relatively dry.
- Check and clean their eyes on a regular basis as well.
- You may also want to clip these small dogs once every two months.
- Remember to trim any hair around their bottom for hygiene purposes.
- This breed is not a heavy shedder and therefore, may be more suitable for someone with allergies.
History
- This dog originated in Italy. More specifically, in the city of Malta.
- Seemingly, this breed is believed to be a mix between a poodle and a miniature spaniel.
- These small dogs were popular among royalty throughout the world.
- They made their way to Europe with Crusaders returning from the Mediterranean.
- This small dog was first brought to America in 1877.
- Shortly thereafter, this breed was recognized by the AKC (1888).
