- They typically weigh between 6 and 8 pounds.
- Their coat is smooth and thick.
- This small dog can be found in black and tan coloring.
Temperament
- This breed is known for being loyal to its master and family.
- These small dogs are affectionate and energetic.
- They tend to be good jumpers and they enjoy digging.
- These little terriers can be somewhat independent and stubborn.
- They are also quite alert and will definitely let you know when there is a stranger around.
- This breed is good with other dogs when socialized as pups. Unfortunately, they are not as good with other small pets.

History
- This dog is the oldest of the terrier breeds.
- These small dogs originated in Manchester England during the 19th century.
- They were primarily used to kill vermin, which ultimately earned them the name “rat terrier”.
- This breed is a mix between a Black and Tan Terrier and the Whippet.
- Two variations of this breed exists:
- The Standard breed
- The Toy breed
- These dogs were used in the creation of breeds such as the Doberman Pinscher and the Airedale Terrier.
- This breed was registered with the AKC in 1886.
