Appearance
- Miniature Schnauzer dogs are quite tough.
- They stand 12 to 14 inches tall.
- They typically weigh between 10 and 15 pounds.
- The Mini Schnauzer has ears that sit high on the head. They are somewhat triangular shaped and fold over (unless they are cropped).
- These small dogs have a double coat that is wiry on the outside and softer on the inner part.
- These dogs are typically clipped so that the face looks like it has a beard and mustache.

Temperament
- This breed is generally playful, and affectionate.
- These small dogs are loyal to their masters and immediate family.

- Due to their intelligence, these small dogs are not too difficult to obedience train.
- Be firm and consistent with your training methods.
- Show this small dog that you are the leader.
- Socialize them at an early age with other people and dogs.
- For the best results, begin training this breed when they are pups.
- Remember that any small dog breed can develop small dog syndrome if not properly trained.
Miniature Schnauzer Grooming
- These dogs are relatively easy to groom.
- Brush them on a regular basis.
- Clip the entire body at least twice a year.
- Be sure to trim the face in order to remove hair in front of the eyes and around the ears.
- Bathe when necessary.
- This breed does not tend to shed a lot of hair throughout the year.
History
- The Mini Schnauzer is known to be a German breed.
- The term “schnauzer” is actually a German term meaning >muzzle".
- These small dogs are believed to be a mix between a Standard Schnauzer, an Affenpinscher, and a Poodle.
- Originally, the Miniature Schnauzer was used to kill vermin or rats.
- This breed was registered with the AKC in 1926.
