Appearance
- The Patterdale Terrier is muscular and well proportioned little dog.
- They stand 10 to 12 inches tall.
- They typically weigh between 10 and 13 pounds.
- These small dogs have a short haired coat that is either smooth or wiry.

- liver
- red
- bronze
- black and tan
Temperament
- This terrier breed is a rugged, even more so than the average terrier.
- They are fearless, active, and have the “terrier instinct” to hunt.

- This breed is better with older, more responsible children.
- When properly socialized, they are good with other canines. However, they should never be left alone with other small household pets.

- This terrier should be walked on a daily basis (a moderate to long distance).
- You can also jog with this dog beside you on a leash.
- These terriers enjoy hiking and running in the wilderness as well.

- Patterdale puppies are normally born into a litter of 4 to 6 pups.

- This is a very healthy breed.

- This terrier is difficult to obedience train.
- As mentioned earlier, they can be quite independent and stubborn.
- These small dogs need a leader who can direct them and provide them with a job.
- You must be firm and consistent when training this breed.
- It is best to train and socialize this breed when they are pups.
Grooming
- These dogs do not require much grooming.
- Simply, brush their coat once a week to help reduce shedding.
- Bathe them when necessary.

History
- The Patterdale Terrier is believed to have originated in Yorkshire and the Lake District located in England.
- This small dog was used for hunting rabbits and fox as well as for killing vermin.
- They were brought to the U.S. in 1978.
- These small dogs are used to hunt a variety of game including:

- raccoon
- badger
- groundhog
- To date, this dog is more thought of as a "working breed" than a family pet.
