Appearance
- The Pekingese is a sturdy little dog and a member of the toy breeds.
- They stand 6 to 9 inches tall.
- They typically weigh between 7 and 14 pounds.
- These small dogs have a flat face and a rather large head.
- This breed has a double coat that is long on the outside and softer underneath.
- These small dogs can be found in nearly any color including:

Temperament

- This toy dog is a moderate to heavy shedder.
- It is best to brush them on a daily basis in order to reduce the amount of hair in your home (use a soft bristle brush and a comb).
- Be sure to untangle any knots or mats located in their fur.
- You may use a dry shampoo in order to clean this breed.
- Also, wipe their face and eyes clean on a daily basis.
History
- This breed is believed to have been in existence for more than 2000 years.
- This breed is named after the city of Beijing, which was once known as the City of Peking.
- These small dogs were owned by Chinese royalty and considered sacred.
- These dogs became pets of Queen Victoria during the 1860s.
- This small dog was first recognized by the AKC in 1906.
- To date, they are one of the more popular small dog breeds.
