  • The Pekingese is a sturdy little dog and a member of the toy breeds.

  • They stand 6 to 9 inches tall.

  • This breed is named after the city of Beijing, which was once known as the City of Peking.

  • These small dogs were owned by Chinese royalty and considered sacred.

  • These dogs became pets of Queen Victoria during the 1860s.

  • This small dog was first recognized by the AKC in 1906.

  • To date, they are one of the more popular small dog breeds.
