Appearance

  • The Italian Volpino is a short little dog.

  • They stand roughly 10 to 12 inches tall (at the shoulders).

  • They have triangular shaped ears that stand straight up (erect). Their tail curls slightly over their back.

  • This small dog has a relatively thick, straight haired coat.

  • These were quite popular among Italian artists such as Michelangelo as well as Italian royalty.

  • The name “Volpino” is Italian for “Little Fox”.

  • This breed nearly reached extinction in the 1960s.

  • To date, this small dog is still quite rare.
