- The Italian Volpino is a short little dog.
- They stand roughly 10 to 12 inches tall (at the shoulders).

- They have triangular shaped ears that stand straight up (erect). Their tail curls slightly over their back.
- This small dog has a relatively thick, straight haired coat.

- These dogs are active and playful.
- This small breed typically loves their master and family. However, they are somewhat wary of strangers.
- These small dogs are quite agile, athletic and fast. In essence, they love outdoor activity.

History
- The Italian Volpino dog is related to the Spitz breed that originated during the Roman era.
- These were quite popular among Italian artists such as Michelangelo as well as Italian royalty.
- The name “Volpino” is Italian for “Little Fox”.
- This breed nearly reached extinction in the 1960s.
- To date, this small dog is still quite rare.
